Hiking & Walking
April 27, 2008 - 1:46pm — GettingOutside
There is nothing quite like a brisk walk, a strong hike, or an epic trek...
Whether you're walking around the neighborhood on the sidewalk, winding along a nature path, or taking a hike on a trail deep in the woods, it's hard to find a more meditative and healthy form of exercise than walking or hiking. It’s an activity that can be enjoyed by almost any age group and any level of physical fitness.
The benefits of regular exercise (which you'll get by walking or hiking any good distace) are many, including: weight loss and weight control, prevention and reduction of high blood pressure, improvement of good-to-bad cholesterol ratio, management of stress and tension, increase in energy and physical strength, and lastly, promotion of good family values like togetherness and heart-healthy exercise habits.
As with many forms of exercise, the hardest part is just taking the first steps (literally, in this case). Finding time on a regular basis to go walking can be tough. But GettingOutside.com can help you find new, exciting places to stave off boredom instead of hiking or walking the same-old trail or path. Visit our Destinations Section to find one near you!
GettingOutside.com will help you get started, and help you find the best places for hiking and walking, trails, nature walks, paths and road routes – in your neighborhood and throughout the country – to keep on perambulating. If you need some motivation, read one of our
