Outdoor Green, Ecology Outside
GettingOutside is essentially Green! Outdoor activities require support for green activism. Doing something outside, instead of playing a video game or watching TV all day inside, is a type of green activism! Because no matter what you want to do outside, you need fresh air, clean water and open spaces to make it possible for you to enjoy yourself outside. (We'll all have to wear SPF 200 sunscreen or zinc shields if the ozone layer ever completely goes...) We need access to nature.
All too often, we are told we cannot eat the fish, because the waters they swim are too polluted. We cannot take a hike, because the land is now closed off for development. They've put up walls and fences to keep mother nature out. And, finally, we have this last one—some of you who live in very busy cities might have heard once or twice before—"We should not exercise outside today, because the current air quality is too dangerous. Currently, there is a high level of Smog in the area, and the UV Forcast is Severe."
Enough is enough!
The environmental movement is a people movement.
Where are people moving? Outdoors - for Activity and Study at the side of the natural world - Outdoor Activity and Ecology Outside will help us along to a more healthy future; and being outside encourages us to respect nature and the environment! This is why we are a part of the growing movement and support for green outdoor activities...
Now is the time to begin to protect the earth's ecosystems and save humanity from itself! We have to put our political differences aside and find common ground on this issue. We can all enjoy going to a baseball game on a cool summer night. This is the kind of outdoor activity that might even be one day threatened unless we do not turn around from our non-sustainable and ever-increasing energy-intensive, consumptive and polluting ways. (Not caring is the problem. Ignorance and ApathY)
The world has changed over the past few centuries; and so now we need to ask ourselves, "Are we headed in the right direction? What are our priorities? (profits or people? Pepsi actually now has a 3P campaign and philosophy going: they include the planet; they call it the triple bottom line: People - Planet - Profits - All equally important... to them... but to me:) It all goes back to people!
We are all in this together... we need to help each other by pushing for each to do his or her part to clean, restore, sustain and fix the earth's ecological balance [and admit that WE HAVE upset it! Too many scientific and apparent facts support the case that we have [proof that global warming and climate change is happening: the non-fictional story of the drought in Kenya that is happening right now; their climate is shifting, and toward warmer, drier. More violent storms have been reported over the past 3 decades.
Climate shifts and changes will happen all over the earth, unless we somehow reverse it... but the train is already in motion, and plowing along at full steam, there is only hope to begin to apply the breaks, and slowly but surely begin to come to a stop—at this point you could call it "Net-Zero" and this is when we'd try to sustain that and let the world begin to heal itself. But there is much we can do to help it on it's way! Like Re-Plant!]. We must begin to love each other more deeply and out of respect for our fellow man [woman, and child], we ask ourselves the following, out of love : )
Do we need to make any lifestyle changes? or begin to address the concerns we are now having about the environment, pollution and resource allocation? Is it time to do something small here and there? Anything drastic?
The Green Revolution is not just a fad that people thought up because they wanted to make money selling "environmentally friendly" products. It is a way of life that is practiced out of Love. Some Believe:
Our future depends on it.
Modern lifestyles and the economic cycles have led us away from subsistence living, away from practical farming, and unfortunately toward overproduction, over-harvesting, and destruction of natural habitats. We cannot continue this unbrided expansion and inflated consumption levels. Eventually we will simply run out of resources, unless we conserve what we have and find ways to do all things sustainably (replenish or restore what you take or harm). Being Green Outdoors means Leaving No Trace! Caring enough not to harm nature... can we say that about big business and the decisions made by our leaders?
When we deregulate industry and allow them to pollute and over develop, we are subsidizing them. Eventually, we will have to pick up the tab in clean up costs, higher health care costs, lost local industries (like tourism and fisheries), and higher taxes. These are hard costs to you and me that can total in the billions of dollars!
The eventual costs of uncontrolled pollution and encroachment upon open spaces far outweighs any short-term economic profits that can ever be made; especially when the only profits made go to just a few major share or stake-holding individuals (involved in whatever industry or company campaign you are considering). They are robbing us blind! Not only of our hard earned money, but of our health and collective well-being too!
There are also quality of life cost issues that go far beyond this, such as not being able to take you grandchild fishing where you used to go when you were a kid; or having to go outside only when they say it is safe; more violent (damaging and deadly) storms. Or seeing your favorite wetlands turned into a sewer... sad, isn't it? There are countless other possible disaster scenarios, and sadly, not of them are far stretched all that much... So therefore:
Each one of us has to look at our own livestyles, our commitment to ecology and conservation too!
We need to conserve our precious resources, and go green! in our lives, lowering not only our carbon footprint but our entire waste-output, properly recycling and disposing of what we use.
Let’s get together and turn this situation around!
