Lake Meredith
May 27, 2008 - 9:05pm — admin
Description:
Great for fishing, camping & hiking, Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, located about 30 miles north of Amarillo, Texas has a 10,000-acre artificial reservoir created by Sanford Dam on the Canadian River, great for fishing, camping and hiking.
Within the dry and windswept high plains of the Texas Panhandle lies a hidden oasis, a welcoming haven where wildlife and humans find respite from the waterless grasslands above. Through this plain, the Canadian River has cut dramatic 200-foot canyons, or breaks, where humans have eked out a living for over 12,000 years. Lake Meredith now occupies these hidden coves where early humans once roamed.
Activities at Lake Meredith include boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, and hunting. Five boat launch ramps and one marina provide access to the lake. Park Headquarters are located in Fritch, Texas.
Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is located adjacent to Lake Meredith National Recreation Area.
