Is Your Congressperson a Friend of Our National Parks?
August 6, 2011 - 6:48pm — kegofabs
In July, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) recognized 57 senators and 179 representatives in the current, 112th Congress for their voting record in the 111th Congress (2009 -2010) with a Friend of the National Parks Award.
How did your representatives stack up? Click this link to learn more and find out how your congressional representatives did. (I also uploaded a pdf, but I think you need to be a member to see it.)
If you love the outdoors, it's very important to know how your politicians vote and hold them accountable for protecting our parks, forests, seashores and other open spaces!
The Friend of the National Parks award was established in 1999 to track and publicize congressional members’ votes on significant national park issues. NPCA examined six key Senate votes and twelve key House votes from the 111th Congress. Senators who voted pro-park four out of six times received the award as did House members who supported parks on at least seven out of twelve votes.
