Red Light Green Light
July 12, 2010 - 9:00pm — Don Neske
In our "classic" version of Red Light / Green Light, one kid plays the "traffic cop", calling out green light and red light, while the rest of the kids try to sneak up on him and touch him without being seen moving.
Red Light Green Light: How it's Played
The Rules: To start, all the kids form a rough line about 15 or 20 feet away from the traffic cop.
The policeman faces away from the other kids and says "green light", keeping his eyes closed. At this point the kids are allowed to move towards the cop.
At any point, the policeman may say "red light!" and turn around to look. If any of the kids are caught moving after this has occurred, they have to move back to the starting point. (Some variations have them out of the game at this point, but that't not a lot of fun.)
Play starts again when the cop turns around and says "green light".
The first player to touch the policeman wins the game and earns the right to be the cop for the next game.
If you're playing it where players caught moving can be "out", then the policeman can win if all the kids are out before anyone is able to touch the cop.
