There's Enough Paper in Land Fills to Build a Tower to the Moon: WHY AREN'T WE USING IT!?
March 23, 2010 - 12:21pm — Matt Kegelman
Each person produces about 4.5 pounds of waste per day; some much more than others (and we can cut down significantly on what we do produce in the way of waste by recycling plastics, metal and paper; and composting organic plant matter).
In all the United States Generates 4 billion pounds of garbage a year. If that sounds like a lot to you, well, that's because it is... but apparently it's not as bad as it once was (we've made some progress, Yay! but let's keep it up! ... or move forward to even greater efficiency and control---we don't have to pollute the earth excessively to lead meaningful, convenient, and pleasure-filled lives.
The amount of trash we are producing now is twice what we produced in 1966. But there were less people then, too. But it also means that now we're consuming more and creating more trash per person, because the US population has not doubled since 1966 equally. And the results are obvious --- there is litter EVERYWHERE in some places in Philadelphia --- and I mean a foot deep, and this is not at the dump! But it sure as hell looks like it in some places... like you're at the dump!
"The growth in waste that actually ends up in the landfill has stopped growing since the 1980s" (but perhaps people have become more careless or more lazy, either that or it's more disrespectful toward the Earth! Or more unawares about environmental issues!), and currently Americans ship off less waste to the landfill than they did in 1979. The main reason is that more and more waste gets incinerated (Carbon emmisive) recycled or composted.
This is good news. We need to make sure we are being wise about our choices which impact the planet and more importantly, all other people!
This is why soon we will be presenting to you with a new How 2: B Part of the Solution:

I cannot understand why
I cannot understand why people are throwing away all of this paper. This is not good at all. It is filling up the land field. Lets change this.

Number One Material Clogging Up Landfills?
Survey says... PAPER! Paper takes up a hell of a lot more room than ajust about any other substance in the landfill, and it clogs up 40% of the space.
