Steal The Bacon - Bacon Hide and Seek, Tag
June 1, 2008 - 8:35pm — GettingOutside
We played Steal the Bacon in school, with a gym teacher as an umpire. I don’t think we ever played this one on our own. But it was a very fun!
The Rules for Steal the Bacon: There are two teams with an equal number of players. Each player is numbered, so that there is a 1 on each team, a 2 on each team, etc.
Each team stands in a line directly facing one another, with the “bacon” placed in the middle. The “bacon” can be a ball, a bowling pin, a cone, even glove or hat will do.
The umpire calls out a number and the kids from each team with that number run out to get the bacon. If you can pick up the bacon and get it back to your side you get a point, but if the other guy tags you after you pick it up, then he gets the point for his team.
A variation of this has the umpire call out two numbers at once, so there’s some teamwork involved.
Somewhere I heard that a variation on the name is Bacon Hide and Seek, but that might be another game. Bacon Tag seems like a better name. Did you play Steal the Bacon? What did you call this outdoor game?
