Setting Goals - The Importance of Goals and Finding Your Inner-Athlete!
February 13, 2010 - 1:52pm — Matt Kegelman
Once you have figured out how much weight you need to loose to achieve your weight-loss goals, you should also come up with a few other specific goals. The purpose of this is twofold: 1) So you will have a reminder of why you are trying to loose the weight and achieve a healthier you. And 2) So you will have a way to gauge the progress you are making with your exercise plan implementation. When setting out upon this journey to healthy weight loss, we have to know what roads we are going to take... and setting a goal that you will meet along the way is the best way to do that!
It can be almost anything. Here are a few possible goals you might think of setting:
- Run or jog a mile (or around the block)
- Bench-press a certain amount of weight
- Be able to do 25 sit-ups and 10 push-ups
- Swim four laps of your best stroke (in under 1:30 sec)
- Get back into shape for playing (or excelling at) a sport you love
Really, we want to stress: It's anything you choose—maybe it’s just to be able to say you accomplished your original goal (so make it "gain the increased confidence" that will come with knowing you did loose weight), but there has to be something that’s going to get you there, something that will motivate you, something you can work toward—but try to make at least one specific goal exercise-related! (If you ever played a sport, think about what you used to be good at, and maybe try to get back into the shape to do what you were able to do before.)
So, now before moving on to our next section (which is on making your own outdoor exercise plan where you'll be learning about how important exercise is to maintaining physical fitness and giving your metabolism its best chance at working with you, instead of fighting against you) you should make sure you have done these five quick and easy things:
- Weigh yourself (no cheating!)
- Go to the link and calculated your BMI
- Record your BMI and see exactly where you stand
- Set your goal for changing your BMI (get in the healthy range, or an exact number)
- Set a few of your own personal goals (and please, make them within reach! Let’s not say beat Michael Phelps in a 100-fly event, but how about drop a few seconds off your current time in the event?—or just finish it—swimming 4 laps of butterfly is tough!)
Once you have set all your goals, you will be ready to dive into the next section on Planning and Doing the Activities that will cause us to drop from our current weight and body composition towards a more ideal body type. And, don’t worry, we'll have you outside—having fun, getting exercise and getting stronger in no time—soon, we promise!
And if you can apply yourself (by sticking to a well planned regiment), the weight will come off! It's really that simple (in %90 percent of cases, always remember to consult your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to begin a new exercise regiment). We can almost guarantee it! What we can guarantee is that it is all up to you!!!

strength training and flexibility
He is the main result of this project is a core program of strength training and flexibility not only did not affect the performance of golfers' but also improve their body composition, muscle strength, joint flexibility, and club head speed... These results stand in contrast to previous concerns golfers' that strength training can reduce flexibility and hinder their ability to drive....
