King King
May 27, 2008 - 7:50pm — GettingOutside
This was a great school game when I was a kid. I somehow doubt it’s played now, in the PC world of fear and safety in which we live. But if you want to try a great game for the kids this one is a thrill.
The Rules: One kid is “it” and stands in the middle of a field. A football or soccer field would work nice. The other kids line up, and the “King” yells, “King King!” And they all have to try and cross the field. Everyone the King can tag is now in the center with him, and on the next round they help him tag the others.
The last one to make it across without being tagged wins.
When we played this on our own, we played a more aggressive variation, called Tackle King King, substituting tackling for tagging. More fun, and while I can’t remember anyone ever getting hurt, I’d bet you’ll never see this game again. (The kids would probably be suspended or something.)
King King
We'd love to hear the games you played when you were young. Share them with your friends on GettingOutside.

I actually think I remember
I actually think I remember that now. I think Steensma drove me into the dusty ground once.
