Kickball - Kick Ball
June 3, 2008 - 7:59pm — GettingOutside
Kickball is another favorite school yard game. A combination of baseball, soccer and dodge ball, it’s played with the same kind of pink, utility ball you find in dodge ball and prison dodge.
The field and positions are just like baseball, but less formal. Have a few extra kids? Stick ‘em in where you can. Missing a few kids? Who cares? It’s kickball.
The Rules: So the pitcher rolls the ball to home plate where the person who’s up kicks it (instead of batting it.). The batters kick the ball as far as they can, aiming for an open area. They then run the bases just like baseball.
However, the fielders can throw them out by throwing the ball to another fielder covering a base, or they can hit the base runner as he’s running (but not while on base). If the ball misses the runner, he can only take one extra base. (The darned “one extra base rule”.)
The rest is very similar to baseball. Balls caught in the air are outs. Each team gets three outs. Teams score when the runners travel the bases and make it to home plate safe.

We'd love to hear the games you played when you were young. Share them with your friends on GettingOutside.
