Kick the Can
May 27, 2008 - 8:30pm — GettingOutside
Don't you remember Kick the Can being one of the noisest games you aver played outside? Maybe it was the sound of the can or the excitement of trying to kick the can first, but remember it being a happy and loose game.
The Rules for Kick the Can: An old can - coffee can, vegetable can, even soda can – is put in a conspicuous spot. The can is sort of home base. One person is “it” and counts to a relatively high number while the rest of the kids hide.
The person who is “it” searches for the other kids. (The kids can be moving around to try and avoid the search.
When he sees another kid he says he sees the kid – pointing the kid out by name – and says where the kid is. They race back to the can. Whoever kicks the can wins, and the other kid is then “it.” And the game starts over again.
Also if the kid who is it isn’t careful, another kid can sneak in and kick the can, making the same person “it” for another turn. Kick the Can!
We'd love to hear the games you played when you were young. Share them with your friends on GettingOutside.
