Heart Smart - Cardio Health, Cardiovascular Information

Over 80 MILLION Americans suffer from one or more forms of Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) with over 800,000 people dying from CVD every year. That's over 1/3 of all deaths in the United States! Many of these deaths are preventable with just small tweaks to diet and exercise applied consistently over time.

GettingOutside inherently involves activity (unless you are just going to sit at your RV's doorstep the entire time). With the proper exercise and nutrition - working with your doctor - you can avoid/overcome the risks of CVD.

Know the Risk Factors:

  • Physical Inactivity
  • Smoking/Tobacco
  • High Blood Cholesterol and Other Lipids
  • Overweight and Obesity
  • Diabetes Mellitus

According to a 2000 CDC survey only 3% of Americans had achieved an "overall prevalence of the healthy lifestyle indicator" or having all four of the Healthy Lifestyle Characteristics, including non-smoking, healthy weight, five fruits and vegetables per day, and regular physical activity.

When you think about it, we can achieve those things, can't we?

GettingOutside is your source for healthy outdoor heart smart lifestyles and information. Share your outdoor health, wellness and dietary experiences with your friends in the GettingOutside Community. Let's work together to avoid and overcome Cardiovascular Disease!

This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. IF you're an American, it's probably happening to you right now! Learn more about heart disease, and start turning the tide.
