Earth Day 2010 - 40 Years Later the Movement Still Grows...

Earth Day '10 - Bigger and Badder!   More problems -> More Involvement -> Quicker Solutions.

Earth Day is perhaps the most important day of the year to members of the green community. Nature enthusiasts, environmentalists and outdoor activists alike all join hands over this holiday—to support our eco-system and try to live at peace with the earth.

This is why Earth Day was first begun exactly 40 years ago this year: because humans have the power to either harm or help the earth, and it is important to many of us to leave the earth in good repair, so our grandchildren may enjoy the fruits and other natural wonders which we’ve encountered in such abundance in our day. We don’t want to leave this place with it looking worse off than we found it. Even if we know it is more than inevitable, at least we are working to offset damages, and will continue to swing the tide for the green side, for environmentalism, for peace and balance—for all sentient, earth-dwelling beings. We all have a right to be here. Therefore, we must share this one rock.

Thank God it has water, and the right amount of direct sunlight and radiation to support life. And the plants grew and populated the earth... then the atmosphere was changed so an o-zone formed and began to shield creatures out of the water from the sun’s harmful ultra-violet radiation. This is what made it possible for life to evolve. And now the best science we have is telling us we are in fact degrading and destroying this protective barrier, by exciting the atmosphere too much—to much energy, heat, motion—and increasing the concentration of energy capturing (or reflecting) greenhouse gases.

What are we to do about this major conundrum? Adopt alternative (non-polluting) energy sources; such as geothermal, wind, of course, solar, and a few other ones that are less heard of: Do you know what the bio-mechanical energy harvester does? It works of the negative when you take a step while walking; it captures energy from each stride you take by spinning a small axel and gear system which is hooked to a tiny AC generator.

The Canadian Military designed it for powering laptops and radios when they were in the backwoods of Canada—off the grid. That is what earth day is encouraging this year. The interaction of man and (energy-efficient) machine. We are going to celebrate by getting out our bicycles and riding to work instead of driving—no matter how hard of a ride it’s going to be (within reason. Perhaps, if your commute is a very long distance, arrange a carpool). We aren’t all going to have the time to go out and plant trees and clean up natural environments on April 22, 2010, but hopefully at least everyone of us thinks about the future ahead, and what we can do to keep this earth as beautiful, plentiful, and relatively safe, and stable, as is humanly possible...

We can do this; but only if we work as a team... everyone get on the same side on this one...

Go Outside on April 22, 2010 – and realize – this is our Shared Home – Earth~!
