Playing Army or Capture the Flag was one of the most fun things we ever did as kids.

The Rules: We had our own rules that I highly doubt were universal, but they were fun for us. We split everyone up into teams of highly armed kids playing soldier (armed with TOY guns, of course.)

Each team would have its own fort, and the object was for one team to capture the other team’s fort or flag.

The idea was to go on patrol and sneak up on members of the other team, shoot them and take them prisoner. If you wanted to shoot someone, you’d yell, “bang, I got you.” That person then had to count to 10 Mississippi before he could move and shoot you. So the shooter had ten seconds to either capture them or run away.

Whoever either captured everyone on the other team or captured the other team’s flag or fort won the game. In the absence of paintballs, it was pretty fun. Try it.
