Andrew Bringardner Bungee Jumps at Victoria Falls

By Andrew Bringardner – After flying from Austin to Atlanta to Dakar to Johannesburg to Livingstone, I arrived at Victoria Falls. The first order of business was the bungee jump (see video and pics below) I promised myself I would do, and as it turned out, I didn't have much time to talk myself out of it.

When I called the bungee company in the morning, they said I needed to come down right away, because they were going to stop doing the jumps at midday. I quickly headed down and went through the immigration post on the Zambian side of the Zambezi river, separating Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The jump site is in the middle of the bridge, which is technically a no-man's land. It is also 365 feet above the water.

In order to reach it from either side, you must clear immigration and ensure you have the proper visas. I was quickly directed to a hut where I signed the indemnity forms, and they weighed me in to make sure I wasn't too heavy for their bungee cords.

The locals kept trying to scare me and said that I was "signing my life away". It didn't seem too far from the truth, looking at the infrastructure in the surrounding areas, but I decided I had traveled too far to back out now.

I crossed to the center of the bridge - no-man’s land - and they put me in a large harness and invited me over to the jump platform. They sat me down and wrapped towels around my legs, then tied them together with a thick nylon harness.

After what seemed to be only a 5-second safety briefing, two people helped me up and I hopped over to the edge.

I never saw them attach the actual bungee cord…

"Toes over the edge, arms out, chin up, 5,4,3,2,1, BUNGEE!!".

It was very quiet at first, then the wind started blowing past me on the way down. The sound of the wind, the views, and the river coming straight at me all combined to make an amazing and thrilling experience.

Victoria Falls....amazing experience

Victoria Falls is one of my favourite destinations in world. All of the adrenalin pumping activities are available there. My favourite amongst is Bungee jump from the railway bridge over the Zambezi River. There are other activities are also available such as helicopter flip over the falls for some great views or fly Superman style across the abyss of Batoka Gorge on a zip line, elephant back safaris which offer you the chance to see lion. Recently we had been to the India tour, and Sikkim Tourism over there is also an interesting.

Amazing!

I don't know if I could do this. Maybe if someone pushed me from behind?
