Rare Photo of Three Amur Leopards Offers Hope for World's Most Endangered Cat
November 25, 2009 - 5:02pm — GettingOutside
Three Amur Leopards Photographed during an anti-poaching operation in the Russian Far East, these beautiful Amur Leopards offer a little Thanksgiving hope for the world’s rarest big cat, the World Wide Fund for Nature said today. Only about 40 critically endangered Amur leopards exist in the wild, so the photos of three healthy individuals around a kill is good news for the future of the sub-species.
You can view many more exclusive photos of the rare Amur leopard and other endangered species from the WWF webpage. They work to ensure the future isn't bleak for these unfortunate, struggling populations of unique and beautiful animals. The World Wide Fund for Nature is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainability, green technology and treating each and other living thing on the planet with the respect it deserves.
People R Trying To Help Replenish / Restore Amur Leopard Population Numbers.......
As soon as the huge cats — a female and two cubs — were identified, an anti-poaching interagency group tightened security by blocking roads around the location. This quick response was even more critical because of the fresh snowfall on the ground, which makes it easier for poachers to track these rare cats. It's criminal. While at least one Amur leopard cub in a litter usually dies, both of these cubs survived their first six months. Hopefully, they will learn the neccessary survival skills from their diehard mother, and live to reach maturity and reproduce offspring of their own one day. Look how beautiful this young Amur Leopard is... but he looks a little bored at the zoo!

Three Individuals Represent Almost 10 Percent of Population! Wow, their numbers are dire, thin... (That'd be the equivalent of getting photographs of 650,000,000 [six hundred million] people: Ten percent of 6.5 billion is 650 million) Crazy! I know, Rite?
“During this holiday season, the presence of these three leopards is something we can all be thankful for," said Dr. Darron Collins, Director of WWF-US’s Amur-Heilong Program. “If we can protect them from poachers and loss of their habitat and recover their prey populations, Amur leopards may yet survive for future generations.”
The anti-poaching interagency group was formed in January of this year to better protect the region’s Amur leopards. It includes WWF, Russian government agencies and other conservation organizations.
To date, the group has conducted 67 operations; instituted four criminal cases; confiscated 12 guns and rifles, filed 18 protocols for administrative infringements; and inspected 33 vehicles. All this is being done with one purpose — to save the Amur leopard from extinction — To protect life and an important part of the ecosystem!

This is definitely such a great photo. This has to be a brave person to get this photo. Not sure what he was thinking here.
Amur Leopard
Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis), also known as the Far East leopard, the Manchurian leopard or the Korean leopard. They are the rarest cat on the planet. You need an English guy to tell you about them...
